Isaac Muller : wooden flutes, whistles

Isaac
It was on the Winterfolk festival in Dordrecht that Isaac, still in the stroller, was first introduced to traditional music. Years later he began to play himself. He started off on the tinwhistle, but soon he was playing the wooden flute too. The first melodies were given to him by his cousin, who had been playing for a number of years then. Trips to Ireland and Brittany followed, and music was learned along the way. When he later moved to Amsterdam he got to play and learn a lot in the lively music scene there.
Regarded as one of the best folk fluteplayers in the Netherlands today, Isaac plays mainly Irish and Breton music on the wooden flute. The influence of the many musicians and styles he came across can be heard in his playing. Besides playing he worked in a music archive, researching Dutch dance music from the eighteenth century. Every once in a while a lost tune from these pages may be heard in his music.
